IND vs NZ: Glenn Phillips breaks Phil Salt’s world record, gets player of the series award in t20I

New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips scripted a record during the five-match T20I series against India.

Phillips totaled an astonishing 341 runs in the series, exceeding Salt’s record of 331 runs against the West Indies in 2023. The Kiwi hitter was named the Player of the Series for his efforts.

The climax was scored in the fifth and closing T20I at Seddon Park in Hamilton, on November 1. Phillips, ending not out on 65 off 38 balls, guided New Zealand to the target of 192 runs set by India in 18 overs.

His knock had eight fours and three sixes. Phillips scored 82no, 70, 17, 107 and 65no, across his five knock and was simply incredible with the bat during the series.

Phillips has also become just the third batter to hit four or more 50-plus scores in a bilateral T20I series, with 341 runs at an average of 113.67 and a strike rate of 185.33.

The remaining two in the elite list are Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Japan’s S Ravichandran. His runs tally also consisted of a century and as many as four half-centuries proving his supremacy over India’s bowling.

However, New Zealand went down 2-3 in the five-match series after losing the first three games to India despite Phillips’ brilliance.

In the final game, Seifert scored a quick 93 off just 50 balls, with Phillips shaping up the latter stages. India made 191/8 with Ishan Kishan 61 and Shreyas Iyer 50.

New Zealand secured a seven-wicket victory, ending the series on a winning note.
