Mahindra has been showing electric Thar concepts for a few years now. Previously, we had only seen them at events. Now, a test mule believed to be the electric Thar has been spotted on public roads for the first time. Here’s what to expect.
Mahindra Thar Electric Spotted: What Does It Look Like?

The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but it looks very similar to the Vision T concept that Mahindra showed in August 2025. It is a five-door SUV with a boxy design, a flat roof and upright pillars.

At the front, we can see a wide grille with vertical elements arranged in two levels. It gets squarish headlamps, a flat bonnet and large rectangular mirrors similar to the current Thar. The wheel arches are flared, and the wheels look like 17- or 18-inch units. The tyres seem road-biased rather than off-road. At the rear, the test mule lacks a spare wheel on the tailgate. The tail lamps look like temporary units. Also, the biggest giveaway that it’s an EV on test is the missing exhaust/tailpipe.

Not much of the cabin is visible. We can see a digital instrument cluster and big grab handles near the A-pillars. The Vision T concept had a portrait touchscreen, so the production model could get a similar screen, possibly shared with the new Scorpio Lifestyler. However, nothing is confirmed yet. Moreover, Mahindra has filed design patents for both the Vision T and the Vision SXT, suggesting the designs are nearing production.
Expected Launch & Price

Mahindra has not confirmed a launch date yet. Its NU_IQ range is expected to start arriving in 2027, but the Thar electric will likely arrive much later. With road testing just starting, we expect a 2028 launch. Pricing-wise, the Mahindra Thar Electric could be priced between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
