The mid-size SUV segment in India offers plenty of fuel-efficient SUVs. But this new Nissan SUV, which resembles the iconic Patrol, might get a powertrain that could deliver fuel efficiency as high as 36 km/l! A premium mid-size SUV that returns up to 36 km/l could be a compelling option for many mileage-conscious buyers.
Mini Nissan Patrol SUV
We are talking about the Nissan Tekton. Currently, it’s offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (six-speed MT only) and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, with a 6MT and a six-speed DCT. But it’s not these powertrains that deliver such impressive figures; it’s Nissan’s e-Power powertrain that does the magic.

Nissan e-Power Explained
e-Power is Nissan’s series hybrid system: a petrol engine acts as a generator to charge the battery, which powers an electric motor that drives the wheels. So, even with a petrol engine, the car delivers power and drives like a pure EV. Currently, Nissan offers this series-hybrid powertrain in international models like the Qashqai, Rogue, Note, Serena, Kicks, and Sylphy.
In July, the Nissan Qashqai with e-Power earned a Guinness World Records title for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric-vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling. It covered 1,980 km on a single tank. This means it delivered about 36 km/l using a 55-litre fuel tank.

Will Nissan Bring This Engine To The Tekton?
With the growing popularity of hybrids in India, Nissan India has said it is considering hybrids and EVs for the Indian market. However, it is still under consideration, and nothing solid has been confirmed. We advise you not to hold off on your buying decisions over this.
