According to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, how many people have been sent out of the country so far? How many kilometers of total fencing is to be installed on the border in West Bengal? How many alleged fake beneficiaries were found in the investigation of ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme?
Kolkata: The BJP government in West Bengal has increased strictness on the border as soon as it came to power. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has made it clear that the work of finding and sending back illegal infiltrators has started. He said that under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 4,800 people ineligible for citizenship have been sent out of the country so far. Apart from this, 836 people have been kept in detention centers in the districts bordering the border. The Chief Minister was speaking at a BJP workshop in Kolkata.
A total of 556 km long border is to be fenced in the state. In the first phase, the government has handed over 100 km long land to BSF so that the fencing work can begin. This decision was approved in the very first cabinet meeting.
“During previous governments, illegal immigrants were either put in jail or given benefits of government schemes. But now, our government is identifying Bangladeshi and Rohingya black marketeers and illegal infiltrators through legal action and handing them over to the BSF,” the officer said. BJP’s policy is clear – Hindus who came to Bangladesh after facing religious persecution will be given citizenship through CAA, while the rest will be sent out of the country.
The census work which was stalled during the Trinamool government will resume in August. The survey will be conducted from 12th to 15th August and actual data will be collected from 16th August to 14th September. Delimitation of seats will be done after completing the census by the end of February.
The Chief Minister said that after checking the list of beneficiaries of the previous government’s ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme, large-scale fraud has been revealed. Investigation found that despite not having their names in the voter list, 27 lakh people were taking advantage of it. Not only this, about 3 lakh men were also taking advantage of this scheme made only for women.
The Chief Minister also announced that financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each will be given to the families of 315 BJP workers killed in political violence during the TMC rule. Besides, one member of the family will also get a government job this month.
