Akhilesh said- students should get compensation
New Delhi [भारत]July 28 (ANI): Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said the opposition will decide its future course of action on the anti-paper leak bill on Tuesday. Reiterating his demand, he said that the Center should assure the students that no injustice will be done to them and provide compensation to the families of those affected amid the police action on student protesters. Speaking to journalists, Yadav said that the government should clearly say that there will be no injustice to students in future. He said, “A decision on further action will be taken tomorrow. We demand that the government clearly say that there will be no injustice to the students, their families will get compensation and no injustice will be done to them in future also.”
Opposition adamant on Home Minister’s statement
Meanwhile, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi rejected Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s criticism of the opposition. He stressed that Parliament is for debate, not for working on the terms of the opposition government. He said that the opposition is ready to participate in the discussion, but stressed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should first come to the House and answer on this issue. The Congress MP said, “Kiren Rijiju needs to understand that the opposition is not a puppet that dances to your tunes. We should participate in the discussion, but why should we do so on your terms? What is Parliament for? The opposition does not come here just to agree with you on everything… We will definitely participate in the discussion, but we have a condition: the Union Home Minister will have to first come on the floor of the House and answer.”
Allegation of suppressing students’ movement across the country
Reiterating a similar demand, CPI MP P. Santosh Kumar said Amit Shah should make a statement in Parliament on the alleged police lathicharge on students. He also expressed concern over reports of similar incidents in several states, especially Bihar, and alleged a coordinated effort to suppress student protests across the country. He said that this issue will be raised again in Parliament on Tuesday. He said, “We demand that Union Home Minister Amit Shah come to the House and make a statement regarding the police lathicharge on students… What is even more shocking is that this did not happen only in Delhi; similar incidents have been reported from many parts of the country… The reports coming from Bihar are particularly disturbing. AK-47 is reported to have been used by a police officer. It seems like a coordinated effort to suppress the students’ agitation across the country. It seems that instructions have been issued especially in NDA ruled states. CJP has already registered his protest that the assurances given have been violated.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday. The Center on Monday introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha to curb paper leaks in the country. (ANI)
