Tiruvallur minor girl case: Special teams deployed, Public assistance sought

The incident occurred on the 12th of this month when the victim, a school-going minor, was walking home in Arambakkam, a village near Gummidipoondi. According to police reports, an unidentified man followed the girl, forcibly took her to a secluded forested area, and sexually assaulted her. The assailant was reportedly speaking on his mobile phone during the crime, which allowed the girl to escape when he was momentarily distracted.

Upon reaching home, the traumatized girl informed her grandmother, who immediately rushed her to Ponneri Government Hospital. Medical examinations confirmed the sexual assault, following which the police registered a case under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim was later shifted to a government hospital in Chennai for further medical and psychological evaluation.

The Tiruvallur district police have formed eight special teams, including three Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-level officers, to track down the accused. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage and mobile phone records from the area, hoping to identify the suspect.

Earlier, a video of the man abducting the girl had surfaced on social media, sparking widespread outrage. Taking note of the public anger, the police intensified their efforts and recently obtained another image of the suspect from a Chennai suburban train. This photo, along with the earlier video, has been circulated widely on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with an appeal for assistance.
