According to the information, the cabinet has given green signal to the loan waiver proposal. However, at present due to the implementation of the code of conduct for assembly by-elections, it will not be officially announced. 56 lakh farmers will get benefit
According to sources, about 56 lakh farmers of the state can get the benefit of this scheme. Outstanding crop loans of up to Rs 2 lakh of eligible farmers will be waived off. The government believes that this will reduce the burden of increasing debt on farmers and they will be able to prepare for the new crop in a better way.
Those who repay loan on time will also get reward
The government will not only provide loan waiver but will also encourage those farmers who have repaid their loans on time. There is a proposal to give incentive amount of up to Rs 50,000 to such farmers. Farmers making regular payments will also benefit from this.
What are the main conditions of the scheme?
The outstanding crop loan till 30 September 2025 will come under the scope of the scheme. Loans up to Rs 2 lakh of eligible farmers will be waived off. Farmers who repay loans regularly will get incentive grant of up to Rs 50,000. The implementation of the scheme may put an additional burden of about Rs 25,000 crore on the state government’s treasury.
There was a demand for loan waiver for a long time
Last year, farmers had to suffer huge losses due to hailstorm and bad weather. After this, many farmer organizations and leaders held agitations and demonstrations demanding loan waiver. The government had assured to provide relief to the farmers before June 30, 2026. Now with the approval of the Cabinet, a big step has been taken in that direction.
