CM Suvendu Adhikari wrote, “Tomorrow, a full cabinet of the nationalist government elected by the mandate of the people of West Bengal will be formed. To expand the cabinet, 35 ministers of the West Bengal government will take oath at Nabanna at 11 am. His Excellency Governor Shri R.N. Ravi will administer the oath to them at Nabanna.” It is expected that senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may be assigned important departments in the state administration.

Plan to stop corruption and atrocities

  • Earlier on May 18, the West Bengal Cabinet had approved the formation of two commissions to deal with institutional corruption and atrocities against women. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had announced this on Monday.
  • Both these commissions will work under the chairmanship of retired judges of Calcutta High Court and will officially start their proceedings from June 1.
  • On this decision of the Cabinet, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had said, “The Cabinet has approved the formation of a commission against institutional corruption, which will be headed by Justice Vishwajit Basu, retired judge of the Calcutta High Court. The Cabinet has also approved a commission for atrocities against women. It will be headed by retired Justice Nirman Chatterjee.”
  • The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is fully committed to transparency and protecting the rights of citizens.

“Both the commissions will start functioning from June 1,” he said.
