Instructions given on dearness allowance

West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has issued 20 percent additional dearness allowance (DA) and salary for the month of October to the state government employees before Durga Puja. The official said that he is committed to reducing the difference in Dearness Allowance (DA) between central and state government employees. He also said that the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission constituted a few days ago will be implemented. Addressing a program organized at Bhawani Bhawan, West Bengal Police Headquarters, the Chief Minister said that I have asked the Finance Secretary and the Finance Minister to release the salaries for October before Durga Puja. Also, I have instructed them to release additional 20 percent dearness allowance in the month of Puja.

When can I get dearness allowance?

State government employees usually get their salaries on the last working day of every month. If this decision is implemented, employees will get their salaries much before the Durga Puja festival to be held in mid-October this year. The Chief Minister said that as per the announcement made in the budget of the state government, additional 20 percent dearness allowance will be effective from October. He said that there is a difference of 42 percent in DA between the Center and the State. We cannot close this gap overnight, it will take time. Noting that earlier officers below the IPS rank were not given adequate attention, the officer said policemen, like other state government employees, have faced financial crunch over the years.
