August 2026 Bank Holidays: The series of festivals and weekly holidays are going to start in India with the beginning of August 2026. If you have to go to the bank branch next month to deposit a cheque, withdraw cash or complete any important documentary work, then first check the list of holidays. According to the holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks will remain closed for about 14 days in different states in August. However, digital banking services will continue as before.
When will banks remain closed in August 2026?
Apart from Sunday, second and fourth Saturday in August, banks will remain closed due to several regional and national festivals.
- August 2 (Sunday): Weekly holiday across the country.
- 4 August: Ker Puja in Agartala.
- 8 August: Second Saturday, banks closed across the country. Tendong Lo Rum Phat in Gangtok.
- 9 August: Sunday.
- 13 August: Patriots Day in Imphal.
- 15 August: Independence Day, banks closed across the country.
- 16 August: Sunday.
- 19 August: Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur birth anniversary in Agartala.
- August 22: Fourth Saturday.
- 23 August: Sunday.
- August 25: Eid-e-Milad and first Onam in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.
- 26 August: Eid-e-Milad, Thiruvonam and other local festivals in many cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Patna.
- 28 August: Banks closed in many states due to Rakshabandhan, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti, Ayyankali Jayanti and Pang-Lhabsol.
- 30 August: Sunday.

What services will be available when the bank is closed?
Despite bank branches remaining closed, digital services like UPI, Internet banking, mobile banking, ATM, debit-credit cards, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, online fund transfer and bill payments will continue to operate normally. Therefore, online transactions will not be affected by holidays.

If you have any urgent banking work, first check the list of holidays of the concerned city. Because RBI holidays are not the same in all states and many holidays are applicable only at the local level. By planning properly, you can avoid unnecessary trouble and wastage of time.
