After the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, once again the discussion regarding reshuffle of ministries in the Modi government has intensified. If we look at the data of 12 years, in some ministries the ministers were changed continuously, while in some departments the same face continued to hold the responsibility since the beginning. This is the reason why the Education Ministry has now joined the list of those ministries where relatively more changes have been seen.

The biggest reshuffle in the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Sports

From 2014 till now, the maximum number of changes have taken place in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This ministry passed to new ministers on seven separate occasions. After this, the Sports Ministry also remained at second position with seven reshuffles. After the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan and Pralhad Joshi getting additional charge in the Education Ministry, till now five ministers have taken charge of it. There were also leadership changes in the Health and Agriculture ministries from time to time, but their number remained relatively small.

Dr. Jitendra Singh is also serving the responsibility in the Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (DoPT) throughout his tenure. There was only one change in the Home Ministry, where Amit Shah took over the responsibility after Rajnath Singh. S. is also in the Ministry of External Affairs since 2019. Jaishankar continues to hold the post.

What do these figures indicate?

Data over 12 years shows that ministries that were directly involved in areas like public relations, education or sports had relatively more changes in leadership. At the same time, stability was seen in the ministries related to infrastructure, foreign policy and administrative coordination. After the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Ministry has once again come in the list of those departments where change of leadership remains the most discussed topic.
