Due to which the quality of sleep deteriorates and health can be harmed. Generally people think that the body will be able to function properly even by sleeping less, but the truth is that good and complete sleep is as important for both our body and mind as food and water. Not getting enough sleep can increase the risk of fatigue, irritability, weakness, loss of memory and many serious diseases.

New born baby
According to Healthline, a newborn baby needs sleep the most. Because the physical and mental development of the newborn child is taking place. In such a situation, they need to sleep for about 14 to 17 hours day and night. Getting good sleep strengthens their growth, memory and immune system. At this age, children wake up and sleep repeatedly because their body is not yet fully developed according to the day-night routine.
School going children (6-13 years)
School going children should take 9 to 11 hours of sleep daily. At this age, children are very active in studies, sports and mental acuity. With adequate sleep, their brain works better, memory becomes sharper and the ability to concentrate on studies increases. Due to lack of sleep, children may experience irritability, fatigue and weakness in studies.
Teenager (14-17 years)
During adolescence, hormonal changes occur rapidly in the body, hence 8 to 10 hours of sleep is considered necessary. Good sleep helps in maintaining mental balance, reducing stress and maintaining energy of the body. At this age, sleep is often affected due to studies, social media and screen time, which can lead to problems like lack of attention and mood swings. Therefore, a teenager must take 8 to 10 hours of sleep.
Adult (18-64 years)
If you are an adult…that is, your age is between 18 to 64 years, then it is better for you to take 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily. Taking adequate sleep gives rest to the body, reduces stress and keeps the heart and brain healthy. Good sleep improves working capacity, focus and mental health. Continuously getting less sleep can increase the risk of problems like obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and fatigue.
Senior Citizen (65 years or more)
With increasing age, the efficiency of the body gradually starts decreasing, hence 7 to 8 hours of sleep is considered sufficient for senior citizens. By getting good sleep, memory remains better, body gets energy and mental health remains good. However, with increasing age, sleep may become lighter and there may also be a problem of frequent waking up at night.
