Twisha Sharma and Bhopal lawyer Samarth Singh met through a dating app. In the beginning everything was like a golden dream. Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma says that when he came to know about this relationship about a year before the marriage, the family agreed for the daughter’s happiness. They had no idea that the person whom they were choosing as their daughter’s partner was hiding in some other form. On May 12, Twisha’s body was found hanging in her house in Katara Hills, Bhopal, after which the horrifying truth behind this entire love story came to light.
First signal of trouble: That honeymoon incident and brother’s mistake
Navnidhi Sharma told that Samarth’s real face was revealed soon after the marriage. They dubbed him a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”. The trouble started during the honeymoon itself, when Samarth publicly pushed Twisha at the airport out of anger over some trivial issue. At that time, Tisha, who was frightened, asked her brother, “Have I taken a wrong decision?” But the family did not take it seriously. The brother thought that perhaps this might have happened in the initial excitement of the marriage and asked him to ignore it. Today Twisha’s father is deeply regretful about this. He says that daughters often hide the initial harassment to save their marriage, which later proves fatal.

New trick of dowry: made one’s pocket emptied without asking
When direct demand of dowry was banned in the society, the methods of harassment changed. Navnidhi Sharma told that Samarth and his mother (who is a retired judge) never asked for money directly. They used to create such circumstances that the girl’s husband had to spend a huge amount of money even if he did not want to. There was constant pressure for higher standards of living and expenses. The limit reached when Twisha lost her job. After this the taunts of the in-laws became unbearable. They would attack Twisha directly and say, “How will we feed you now?”
Heartbreaking last messages: “Mommy, my life has become hell”
The WhatsApp chat between Twisha and her mother before her death is a solid proof of how much mental and physical torture she was going through. On April 30, Twisha had messaged her mother: “Calling Bhopal and all the same drama again. My life has become hell, mummy.” On May 7, her torture reached its peak and she pleaded with her mother: “Mother, please come and pick me up from here tomorrow. I will go mad while I stay here.” She also revealed in the chat that her husband was just ‘tolerating’ her for a year.

Forced abortion and defamation of character: “I can’t take it anymore”
The most disgusting and shocking revelation that came from Twisha’s chat was the doubt on her character and forced abortion. Twisha’s pain and anger are clearly visible in a message sent on May 9. She wrote: “He’s asking me whose baby it was, and you want me to ignore it? This has crossed all limits of meanness.” Apart from this, Samarth had also put a condition before Twisha that her father should apologize to her by rubbing his nose on the ground. In her last conversation, Twisha had said, “I am feeling very suffocated, mother. Neither will these people let me cry, nor will they give me any reason to laugh.”
Pleading for justice outside CM House: Absconding accused and demand for re-postmortem
After the suspicious death of Twisha, a case of murder and dowry harassment has been registered against her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh. Accused lawyer Samarth Singh is absconding after the court rejected the bail application. Father Navnidhi Sharma, who lost his daughter, is now sitting on strike outside the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s residence for several days. Their demand is that the matter should be investigated impartially and Twisha’s body should be re-postmortemed so that the truth can be revealed.
