For the last three years, India was at second position in the KitKat market. But now India has jumped to the first position by defeating 85 countries of the world. Ten years ago, India was at number ten in this list, after which the brand progressed rapidly in the country. After Nestle’s another popular brand Maggi, KitKat is the second brand for which India has become the largest market in the world.

The biggest reason behind this huge success has been to continuously bring new changes as per the preferences of the customers. KitKat did not just limit itself to the mass market, but also expanded its presence in the premium segment. Jagatishan Gopichand, Confectionery Director, Nestle India, says that ‘KitKat Celebrate’ for festivals, ‘KitKat Pops’ in smaller sizes, ‘KitKat Delights’ with salted caramel and hazelnut flavors in the premium range and ‘KitKat Duo’ and ‘Lemon and Lime’ for everyday flavors took the market by storm.

‘Visicooler’ revolution

Not only spent heavily on advertisements, Nestle also made major changes in its supply chain which proved to be a game-changer. The company made a big investment in installing ‘Visicoolers’ (fridges with special glass doors) in the stores to keep the chocolate from melting. With this step, the sales and popularity of KitKat increased rapidly not only in cities but also in villages.

According to data from the last financial year (FY25), more than ₹395 crore (3,950 million) KitKat Fingers were sold in India alone. With this, KitKat became the fastest growing brand in the chocolate category in India. Even today, India is the world’s largest market for Nestlé’s Maggi noodles, with over 500 crore Maggi servings consumed every year.
