Samsung One UI 9 beta announced: New features, AI tools and security upgrades revealed

New Delhi: Samsung Electronics has officially announced the One UI 9 beta programme, which is based on Android 17. The update is centred around AI-powered tools, greater personalisation and enhanced security measures. The update was announced by the company on Tuesday, with changes made to system apps and user interface design.

The new version, Samsung says, adds smarter threat detection and enhanced accessibility features. The company also said it will release the new version of One UI 9 later this year with its next-generation flagship devices.

One UI 9 availability

The Galaxy S26 series will be the first to receive the One UI 9 beta programme in certain regions, Samsung confirmed in its official blog. This includes India, Germany, South Korea, Poland, the UK and the US. Eligible users can register from the Samsung Members app from this week.

The company hasn’t announced a specific rollout schedule for older Galaxy phones and tablets. The stable release should arrive later this year with future flagship launches.

Redesigned quick panel and customisation

One UI 9 adds a new feature to the Quick Panel, which is more flexible. Users are now able to adjust brightness, sound and media controls on their own. The change enables users to customise the layout according to their will, Samsung says.

It also features improved system-wide customisation options to make everyday interactions more intuitive and user-friendly.

New creative tools in Samsung notes

Samsung Notes has a few innovative enhancements. New pen styles and decorative tape options can now be used for enhanced note-taking and journaling.

Samsung has also added Creative Studio to the Notes and Contacts apps. This enables users to generate customised profile cards without having to navigate between apps, streamlining workflow.

Improved accessibility features

It has been made more accessible with new features and ease of use. Here, One UI 9 has added the feature to adjust mouse key speed for smooth cursor movement.

A more consistent experience with Samsung’s TalkBack service has now been integrated with Google’s accessibility tools. Selected text in a floating window is enlarged with a new text spotlight feature to aid reading.

Stronger security and app protection

Another priority in One UI 9 is security. The system is now able to detect suspicious or harmful apps proactively, Samsung said. Users will be warned if a high-risk app is detected, and the installation or execution of the app may be denied.
