BCCI on Impact Player Rule: The impact player rule in IPL was started in the year 2023. This rule was introduced to increase the excitement in the tournament, but from time to time it has been criticized a lot by players and experts. Under the Impact Player rule, each team can replace one player during the match. With this, teams can strengthen their batting or bowling according to the match situation. Now a big statement has come from BCCI on this rule.

BCCI gave a big update regarding impact player

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is going to review the Impact Player rule after the end of IPL 2026. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said that this rule has been under discussion for the last two years. It will be reviewed after the tournament is over. He made it clear that at present no changes will be made. Actually, after the introduction of this rule, the number of high scoring matches in IPL has increased. Scores of 250+ have become common. Due to the flatness of the pitches and this rule, the pressure on the bowlers has increased. Critics say that this rule has reduced the role of all-rounder players. Teams can easily include specialist batsman or bowler.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia while talking about this rule said, ‘There are some low scoring matches also. All the fans are enjoying the matches. Bowlers are also getting good wickets. If you look at the scorecard, some teams are scoring very low, and some teams are even chasing 260 runs. Everything is happening, it is a complete bouquet in one package. Devjit Saikia further said, ‘Discussion on this rule has been going on for the last two years. We will review this after the tournament is over, and we cannot take any decision in the middle of the tournament. I have sometimes read about it in the media. But if any such request comes from the teams, then we will have to take a decision. But no such situation has arisen yet.

Virat-Rohit have also raised their voice

In the year 2024, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had also given statements against this rule. Rohit had said that I am not a fan of this rule. This will affect all-rounders. Cricket is a game of 11 players, not 12. I believe that there should not be this kind of dominance in cricket at the top level. There should be equal balance between bat and ball. At the same time, Virat Kohli had said that I support Rohit. Entertainment is one aspect of the game but there must be balance. This has upset the balance of the game and many people feel this way, not just me.
