Iran’s Abbas Araghchi to visit Pakistan as US talks remain stalled amid ceasefire uncertainty

New Delhi: Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday confirmed that he will visit Pakistan as part of a regional tour, even as negotiations between Iran and the United States remain stalled.

The visit comes at a time when diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington have reached an impasse. There is no clarity yet on whether Iran will participate in further talks aimed at easing tensions linked to the ongoing conflict, which is currently under a fragile ceasefire.

In a post on X, Araghchi said, “Embarking on timely tour of Islamabad, Muscat and Moscow. Purpose of my visits is to closely coordinate with our partners on bilateral matters and consult on regional developments. Our neighbors are our priority.”

Deadlock in US-Iran talks continues

Efforts to revive dialogue between Iran and the United States have not progressed beyond an initial round held earlier this month. The talks, which lasted several hours, ended without any agreement.

Since then, there has been little movement towards a second round. Iran has not confirmed its participation, and officials have not indicated any timeline for renewed negotiations. It also remains unclear whether Araghchi or his delegation will engage with US officials during the upcoming visit.

Pakistan steps in as mediator

Pakistan has been preparing to host another round of talks in an attempt to bring both sides back to the table. Islamabad is positioning itself as a mediator to reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue.

However, there is still no confirmation on whether senior US officials will travel for the proposed discussions.

Security tightened ahead of visit

Security arrangements have been strengthened in Islamabad ahead of the visit. Checkpoints have been set up across the city, and movement has been restricted in the high-security red zone where talks may be held.

US Vice President JD Vance was earlier expected to return for talks after leaving without a deal during the first round, but there has been no official update on his visit.
