Manish Bansal becomes new District Magistrate of Agra; who is he?

New Delhi: Agra District Magistrate Arvind Mallappa Bangari has been shifted. He has been appointed as Special Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Manish Bansal, who previously served as the District Magistrate of Saharanpur, will now become the new DM of Agra. Bansal is the son-in-law of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Gyanesh Kumar was born in Agra. Bansal’s wife, Medha Roopam, is the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida).

He hails from Punjab’s Sangrur

Manish Bansal’s father-in-law, Gyanesh Kumar’s parents — Dr Subodh Kumar Gupta and Satyavati Gupta — live in Vijay Nagar Colony in Agra. Manish Bansal, an IAS officer, belongs to Sangrur in Punjab. Ram Avtar Bansal, his father, is a chief manager at a bank, while his mother, Sudha Bansal, is a homemaker.

Keen interest in academics

From an early age, Manish Bansal had a keen interest in academics. He scored good marks in both high school and intermediate exams. Manish Bansal pursued his Master’s in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and is a 2014-batch IAS officer.

Arvind was made DM Agra in 2024

A 2011-batch IAS officer, Arvind was made District Magistrate of Agra on September 15, 2024. Earlier, he had served here as a Joint Magistrate. His tenure in Agra was considered successful. His legacy is his positive image among the public.

Major reshuffle

In a major late-night administrative reshuffle on Sunday, the state government transferred 40 IAS officers, including District Magistrates of 15 districts. The Divisional Commissioner of the Devipatan division was also changed. The reshuffle also includes Chief Development Officers, officials at the Secretary level, and vice-chairpersons of development authorities.

Reshuffles were also carried out in development authorities, with vice-chairpersons of the Jhansi and Hapur-Pilkhuwa Development Authorities being changed. All officials have been ordered to assume charge at their new postings with immediate effect.
