The Odyssey 3-day India collections: Biggest start ever for a non-franchise Hollywood film

Christopher Nolan is one of the biggest brands from Hollywood among Indian audiences. Just looking at his name, many throng to theatres irrespective of the film’s genre. The filmmaker has been building a reputation among Indian moviegoers for a long time, and now that goodwill has converted nicely into box office numbers. His recent release, The Odyssey, based on Homer’s Greek epic Odyssey, opened to stunning numbers in India.

In its opening weekend, The Odyssey earned a phenomenal Rs. 56 crores nett in India (approximately Rs. 70 crores gross), which is the highest start ever for a Nolan film as well as a non-franchise Hollywood movie. The Odyssey’s business was dominated primarily by the South markets, as is the case with many Hollywood outings.

The film received rave reviews from critics, and word-of-mouth is excellent too. In the coming days as well, The Odyssey is expected to maintain a good hold at the Indian box office and is set to surpass Oppenheimer’s lifetime numbers (around Rs. 130 crores nett) with ease.
