At its Investor Day presentation in late 2025, Hyundai confirmed the launch of 26 new models, including seven all-new nameplates, for the Indian market. All these products are slated to arrive over the next five years. The major highlight of the announcement was Hyundai’s entry into two all-new segments – an MPV and an off-road SUV. While the carmaker remained tight lipped about the upcoming models, it recently patented the Hyundai Boulder in India.
Hyundai’s 1st Body-On-Frame SUV
The Hyundai Boulder is a rugged off-road SUV concept that was first showcased at the 2026 New York International Auto Show. It previews the brand’s first body-on-frame architecture, which is expected to be Hyundai’s most capable off-road platform yet. This new architecture will also underpin a new midsize pickup truck for the U.S. market by 2030.
Rugged Styling
The Boulder concept features a boxy and upright stance and adopts Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design language. It comes equipped with massive 37-inch all-terrain tyres with beadlock-style wheels along with a full-size spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. Design elements such as a high ground clearance, short overhangs, roof rack and Safari-like roof windows further enhance its rugged appearance. The off-road concept also sports a roof-mounted LED light bar.
Adventure-Focused Interior
Inside the cabin, the Hyundai Boulder concept offers multiple digital displays instead of one large touchscreen along with several physical control buttons. The SUV has an adventure-focused cabin layout with a rugged dashboard, multiple large grab handles and a heavy-duty gear selector.
Multiple Powertrains?
Powertrain details of the new Hyundai off-road SUV have not been revealed yet. However, since its body-on-frame platform supports multiple powertrain, the production model could be offered with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and electric options.
Launch Timeline
The production-ready Boulder off-road SUV is likely to make its debut in North America by 2030. In the U.S, the Hyundai Boulder is expected to be positioned against the Ford Bronco, Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, the recently filed patent suggests that the rugged SUV could make its way to the Indian market.
