Actually, Swiggy and Zomato have increased the platform fees by 9 times in the last 3 years i.e. from 2023 till now. The fee which used to be Rs 2 earlier has now increased to Rs 17.58 including GST. According to Bhaskar’s report, this amount is so much that if you place 12 orders from these platforms in a month, you will have to pay around Rs 900 more, which includes platform fee of around Rs 180 and delivery charge of around Rs 720.

People have now started ordering food online so much that its data has crossed 3 times in the last 3 years. In the year 2023, the food delivery business was around Rs 69 thousand crores. Which is continuously increasing. EMR & Mark estimates that the business of this sector will increase to Rs 2.25 lakh crore by the end of this year.
Eating online is expensive
Ordering food online is easy. You enter an OTP or select a food item and order it immediately and the companies deliver the food to your home as soon as possible. But do you have any idea how expensive this food is? According to reports, the menu you see while ordering online is about 10-15 percent more than the offline rate. This simply means that if you get 4 rotis for Rs 100 offline, then the same can cost you up to Rs 115 online.
