Three constitutional amendment bills related to women’s reservation could not be passed in the Lok Sabha even after a long discussion of 21 hours. During the voting, 298 votes were cast in favor of the bill, while 230 MPs voted in opposition. Although, two-thirds majority i.e. 352 votes was required to pass these bills, but the government could not reach this figure. A total of 528 MPs took part in the voting and the bill ultimately failed by 54 votes. This is believed to be the first time that the Modi government was not successful in passing an important bill in the Lok Sabha.
