On Monday, the police arrested 10 youths accused of vandalizing private cars during the protest organized on July 25 against the NEET paper leak at Patthar Girija under Civil Lines police station area of the city.
A police officer gave this information. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav termed this incident as very serious and targeted the Central Government. He also questioned the Centre’s assurance of not taking any retaliatory action against students involved in the agitation against question paper leak. The former Chief Minister demanded the immediate release of the students.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Shandilya said that the police have arrested 10 people by identifying through CCTV and video footage the people who vandalized private vehicles during the protest organized at Patthar Church on July 25. He said that so far 3 cases have been registered in Civil Lines police station regarding the incident of vandalism of vehicles during the protest. He said that other miscreants are being identified and they will also be arrested soon.
Shandilya said that after checking the background of the arrested persons, it was found that none of them is a student and some of them sell fruits and some work as cleaners in a hotel. Several cases are already registered against one of these persons in Naini police station. He told that after getting information about the call for protest by various organizations, these accused had reached near the stone church. These people, who had come to Patthar Church with the aim of disturbing the law and order, were not even aware of the issues on which the protests were being held.
Meanwhile, SP President Akhilesh Yadav alleged that after the protest in Prayagraj, a special team of Uttar Pradesh Police picked up several students in vehicles without number plates. Yadav said in the post on ‘X’ that for the information of the entire country – this is very serious news. In the name of the protest in Prayagraj, a special team of Uttar Pradesh Police has picked up a large number of students in vehicles without number plates. He said that when the Central Government had assured that no action would be taken against any student, then on whose instructions has this happened? Does the Uttar Pradesh Police want to prove the Prime Minister’s assurances and promises as hollow? Yadav demanded that all the students who were picked up should be released immediately. All the policemen and senior officers involved in this alleged illegal action should be immediately suspended and strictest action should be taken against them. He also appealed to the judiciary for intervention and said that I request the court to take immediate cognizance of the threat looming on the lives of these students.
