The central government has issued a new warning for PAN card users. The government believes that, if you have obtained a PAN card with the help of Aadhaar Enrollment ID, then you should replace your Aadhaar card with the original Aadhaar card number. Otherwise your PAN card can stop working from 31 December 2025. However, it is not for all Aadhaar card users. A notification has been issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, in which the PAN card holder has been ordered to be verified by the Aadhaar number by 31 December 2025.
Income tax department will have to give information
According to government notifications, all PAN card holders will now have to tell their Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department, all PAN holders who take PAN card from the enrollment ID to apply Aadhaar before 1 October 2024. According to the notification issued on 3 April 2025, all such PAN card holders will have to provide their information by 31 December 2025.
PAN-Aadhaar Card Link
The existing process of PAN-Aadhaar linking will be used to link PAN card to Aadhaar number. The PAN card holder will have to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linking process by visiting the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. By the way, the last deadline to link PAN Aadhaar was 30 June 2023 and now you may have to pay a fine. But those who have taken a PAN card from the enrollment ID did not have the Aadhaar number at that time. Therefore, such PAN card holders could not do linking within the time limit of 2023. Those PAN cards can be exempted from penalty.
