Nor has anything been said openly from Yamaha Global yet regarding the return of Yamaha RX100. However, there is every possibility that this bike is going to make a comeback in the Indian market soon. Anyway, in recent times, classic bikes like Jawa, Yezdi and BSA have made a strong comeback in the Indian market.
At the same time, some YouTube Vloggers to auto bloggers have talked about the launch of Yamaha RX100 in their posts. A picture regarding this is also viral, which has not been completely confirmed.
That’s why he ruled from 1985 to 1996
If we talk about the previous Yamaha RX100, it was launched in 1985. Initially Yamaha kept importing it from Japan to India, but in the 1990s, Eicher Motors took the license to make it in India and it continued to be produced and sold in India till 1996.
The biggest reason for the popularity of Yamaha RX100 was its sleek design. It had a 98cc 2-stroke engine, which gave tremendous power at that time. This bike was developed keeping Indian customers in mind. Indian customers liked its seat height and its light weight.
Whereas Yamaha RX100 came to India at a time when scooters were preferred among 2-wheelers and the reign of Bajaj Chetak was intact. Yamaha RX100 ended the reign of Chetak on the roads, because due to its light weight it gave better mileage than scooters.
Hero Splendor broke the magic
By the year 1994, the market started shifting to 4-stroke engines. This shift also affected Bajaj Chetak and Yamaha RX100 also became its victim. Due to its good legacy, the company did not make changes in it in time and by then Hero Honda (now Hero MotoCorp) launched Hero Splendor in the Indian market in 4-stroke engine.
Within no time, Splendor started capturing the market and even today it is the best selling 2-wheeler in the country. Hero did not repeat Yamaha’s mistake and from time to time made changes in Splendor and launched models like Splendor+ and Super Splendor.
