Bhopal/Khandwa. On June 19, on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu visited Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. During this, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Governor Mangubhai Patel reached Omkareshwar and welcomed him. After this, the President visited the special exhibition organized at the state level program organized under the National Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Mission-2047.
Took information about the activities of Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047
During the inspection of the exhibition, President Draupadi Murmu received detailed information about the works, innovations and public awareness campaigns being done under the Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047 in Madhya Pradesh. He appreciated the efforts being made by the state government for prevention of the disease, timely detection, treatment and delivery of health services to the affected families.
In the exhibition, the identification, treatment, counseling services, awareness programs and prevention measures related to sickle cell disease were effectively presented by the Medical Education Department, Public Health and Medical Department and AYUSH Department. The officials also informed the President about the screening campaign, genetic counselling, free treatment system, sickle cell mobile app, portal and future action plan of the mission.
Special focus on health services in tribal areas
Tribal Affairs Department and Scheduled Caste Welfare Department presented information about the services of mobile medical units operating in tribal areas, health facilities available to sickle cell patients, Scheduled Caste Relief Scheme and other welfare schemes in the exhibition. The President appreciated the usefulness of these initiatives and said that providing health facilities to remote areas is vital for the success of the Mission.
Women and Child Development Department displayed major schemes
Through the exhibition, the Women and Child Development Department shared information about Mukhyamantri Ladli Brahmin Yojana, One Stop Centre, Women Helpline-181, Nutritional Diet Program and other schemes run for the welfare of women and children. The President praised the services being provided to the weaker and needy sections of the society through these schemes.
President also met sickle cell friends and health workers
During the exhibition, President Draupadi Murmu interacted with officials of various departments, health workers, sickle cell friends and representatives of social organizations. He appreciated the coordinated efforts being made to make the mission successful. On this occasion, the President also got a group photograph taken with the representatives associated with the Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047.
What is sickle cell disease and why is it a matter of concern?
It was told in the program that sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder, which is passed from parents to children through genes. In this disease the red blood cells become sickle shaped instead of the normal round shape. These abnormal cells affect the flow of oxygen in the body and can cause blockage in blood vessels, leading to many serious health problems.
Government’s resolution regarding Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047
The Government of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh are running large-scale testing, treatment, counseling and public awareness campaigns to achieve the target of eliminating sickle cell disease by the year 2047. This program organized on World Sickle Cell Day is being considered an important step towards strengthening the national resolve and making people aware about the disease.
