The first semi-final of the World Cup-2023 will be played between India and New Zealand on Wednesday. This match will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Team India will be eyeing revenge for the defeat suffered 4 years ago. Actually, New Zealand had defeated India in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals. However, this time the situation is different. Team India is in tremendous form and is playing at home.
Before this match, veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has given his opinion. Gavaskar believes that due to his footwork and strategic approach, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson should not have any problem in dealing with the Indian spinners, especially Kuldeep Yadav, in the semi-final match.
What did Gavaskar say?
Gavaskar said, he is a legendary player and it does not matter that he is returning after a long rest and has scored runs. So I don’t think it’s going to make much difference. He said, he uses his steps very well and uses his crease well to deal with the turn.
Gavaskar said that he is a very good player and hence I don’t think he should have any problem in playing Kuldeep. He would know how to deal with Kuldeep. Gavaskar said that Williamson’s batting is not limited to his technical knowledge and strokeplay only and he is also adept at playing long shots when needed.
He said, he will focus on rotating the strike if needed but if there is a loose ball, he will also hit boundaries on it. We did not see this side of Kane Williamson in 2019 but here we have also seen him hitting long shots. He can adopt such attitude against Kuldeep Yadav also.
