Work From Home: What kind of ‘job from home’ is this? Tracking through GPS, if you go out of Delhi-NCR, you will be considered absent. Indian Companies’ Gpstracked Work From Home Policy Sparks Outrage

After retrenchment, a company started WFH, but kept the condition that the employees should remain in Delhi-NCR. GPS tracking is being done for attendance, due to which employees are disappointed with this policy.

New Delhi: AaGenerally, when a company provides the facility to work from home, the employees jump with joy. But the employees are surprised to hear about the new work from home policy of a company. An employee of the company has revealed on social media that the company is tracking his location through GPS while working from home. This post is now being discussed a lot on the internet. The employee told that only last month the company had fired people on a large scale, after which this new rule has been brought.

Reason for work from home

Before the retrenchment, there were 40 employees in the company, now only 15 are left. To save costs, the company vacated its large office on the sixth floor and shifted to a smaller space on the fifth floor. The employee wrote on Reddit’s ‘Indian Workplace’ page, “There is no space for all of us to sit on the fifth floor, so the company decided to offer work from home. There are only 4 seats for us. So, the rest will have to take turns working from home. After a few weeks, people from home will come to the office and people from office will work from home.”

This is cheating!

As soon as he heard the announcement of work from home, the employee was happy that he would be able to go to his home and work from there, but the condition of ‘GPS’ dashed all his hopes. The employee said, “At first I was very happy that finally I would be able to go to my hometown. But the boss clearly said that the work will have to be done only within Delhi-NCR. To ensure this, the attendance will be done through GPS. Only if the employee is within the Delhi-NCR range, the system will mark his attendance.” According to the employee, the boss did not give any concrete reason for this, but perhaps it is so that the employee can reach the office quickly if called in an emergency. He asks, “I was very disappointed to hear this. Is this what we call real work from home?”

‘This is slavery’

As soon as the post went viral, there was a flood of people’s reactions on social media. Many people agreed with the employee and criticized this attitude of the company. One user wrote, “This is called slavery, and unfortunately it is becoming common in our society.” At the same time, some people said that even big companies do the same. Another user said, “The situation is the same in big multi-national companies (MNCs). Many employees go offline by making excuses like power outage or no internet. Perhaps to avoid such things, the company has started GPS tracking.” At the same time, some people also criticized the employee for not disclosing the name of the company.
