Host England had already entered this match as a contender for victory, but hardly anyone had thought that their victory would be so one-sided. The reason for this was England’s strong batting. Sri Lankan team defeated in front of the camp

Now if Sri Lanka wanted to achieve such a big target then it also needed an opening like England. Especially the team’s eyes were fixed on its veteran captain Chamri Atapattu, who had saved the team many times before. But within the first 20 balls of the Sri Lankan innings, the opening pair including Atapattu (6) returned to the pavilion and then it was difficult for Sri Lanka to make a comeback.

Wickets kept falling one by one and the team kept moving towards defeat. Harshita Samarawickrama (29) and Neelakshika Silva (39) scored some runs and took the team beyond 100 runs. Ultimately the entire team collapsed for 132 runs. Freya Camp, playing her first match for England in the World Cup, took 4 wickets for just 22 runs, while Sophie Eccleston and Nate Siver also got 2 wickets each.
