Women’s Reservation Bill fell by 28 votes, Modi government failed in the House for the first time in 11 years. Women Reservation Bill Fails In Lok Sabha By 28 Votes Government Misses Two Thirds Majority

Women Reservation Bill: The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha could not garner the required two-thirds majority and fell by 28 votes. For the first time in 11 years, Modi government could not pass any bill, 130 MPs took part in the debate that lasted 21 hours.

The 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation, which was discussed in the Parliament for a long time, could not be passed finally. This is not just the falling of a bill, but is also being considered as a big message in the politics of the country. Voting took place on this bill in the Lok Sabha, in which the government fell behind in gathering the required majority. If we look at the figures, the picture becomes clear.

How many votes were cast and where were the mistakes made?

298 MPs voted in favor of this bill, while 230 MPs were against it. A total of 489 MPs took part in the voting. To pass a constitutional amendment bill, two-thirds majority is required. That means two-thirds of 489 is 326 votes. But the government got only 298 votes, which was 28 votes less than the required figure. For this reason the bill could not be passed and was defeated.

Shock to the government for the first time in 11 years

This incident is also important because this is the first time in the last 11 years that the Central Government has not been able to pass any important bill in the Lok Sabha. This is being considered a big political blow for the government.

Amit Shah’s statement and political conflict

Before voting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a speech for about an hour. He had clearly said that if this bill is not passed then the responsibility will be on the opposition. She also said that the women of the country are watching who is standing in the way of their rights. After this statement the atmosphere in the House became more political.

21 hours long debate, 130 MPs put forward their views

This bill was discussed in the Lok Sabha for a total of 21 hours. During this period, 130 MPs expressed their views, including 56 women MPs. Not being able to reach a consensus even after such a long discussion is an indication that political differences are still very deep on issues like women’s reservation.

Now the question is whether the government will bring this bill again or will it re-introduce it by making some changes. At the same time, the opposition can also make it a political issue in its own way. At present it is clear that it is not easy to reach a consensus in Parliament on an important issue like women’s reservation, and this issue may become more heated in the future.
