Will Suryakumar Yadav feature in KKR vs MI IPL 2026 clash? Here comes the big update

Suryakumar Yadav has officially rejoined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp after missing the franchise’s recent match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala. Last week, the explosive batter and his wife welcomed a baby girl, prompting him to take a brief leave to be with his family, which saw him sit out of Mumbai’s six-wicket victory on May 14.

At the same time, reports suggest that the Indian T20I skipper has also been managing a persistent wrist injury. This physical setback is believed to have played a significant role in his recent on-field struggles throughout what has been a challenging season for the batter.

However, cleared the air regarding his status by sharing an Instagram post confirming his return to the squad, featuring pictures of him training hard at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Barring any late fitness hitches, he is expected to be fully available for selection for the Mumbai Indians’ upcoming IPL fixture on May 20.

MI’s rusty IPL 2026 campaign

MI have endured a heavily challenging season, managing only 4 wins out of their 12 games to find themselves reeling in the 9th spot on the IPL 2026 points table. This disappointing standing comes after what was actually a promising start to their campaign, which they kicked off with a convincing six-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

However, that initial momentum quickly evaporated as the franchise suffered four back-to-back defeats immediately following their opening win. While MI managed to bounce back spectacularly in their sixth game by crushing the Gujarat Titans by 99 runs, their inconsistency caught up with them again, leading to another three consecutive losses. Having secured a victory against PBKS in their most recent outing, the team will now be playing for pride as they aim to finish on a high by winning their final two matches of the season.

Apart from the Mumbai Indians, the Lucknow Super Giants have also mathematically crashed out of the playoff race. The Rishabh Pant-led side has mirrored MI’s struggles, sitting with just 4 wins and 8 points from their 12 matches, ensuring an early exit for both highly anticipated franchises this year.
