Nitish Kumar Deputy PM: After JDU, RJD has also raised the demand to make Nitish Kumar the Deputy Prime Minister. Know why this demand intensified amid discussions about Modi cabinet expansion, what is its political meaning and what impact it can have on the politics of Bihar.
Once again a new discussion has started in Bihar politics regarding Nitish Kumar. First Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and now Janata Dal United (JDU) have also demanded that former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar be made the Deputy Prime Minister in the central government. This demand has created a stir in political circles amid speculations about possible cabinet expansion in the Narendra Modi government.
What did the JDU MLA say?
JDU MLA Pankaj Mishra, while talking to ABP News, said that Nitish Kumar should be respected for his long political experience. According to him, Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar for about 20 years and before that has also been a minister in the Central Government. He said that if the Modi cabinet is expanded then Nitish Kumar should be made the Deputy Prime Minister. He claimed that the people of Bihar also want the same and this would be the appropriate honor for his political contribution.
RJD has also made such a demand
Interestingly, before JDU, senior RJD leader Mukesh Roshan had also raised the same demand. He had said that Nitish Kumar should get bigger responsibility at the Centre. According to him, he may also be given the post of Deputy Prime Minister along with important ministries like Agriculture or Railways. RJD says that if this happens then it will be a matter of honor for the entire Bihar.
Discussion increased amid speculations about cabinet expansion
In fact, there is a possibility of cabinet expansion in the central government soon. For this reason, political parties are demanding bigger responsibilities for their leaders. JDU has also put forward the name of Nitish Kumar at this time. At present Nitish Kumar is a member of Rajya Sabha and the command of the party is in his hands. His influence is still considered to be intact in the politics of Bihar.
Big change in Bihar politics
Nitish Kumar resigned from the post of Chief Minister of Bihar on 14 April 2026. Earlier on April 10, he was elected to Rajya Sabha. After his resignation, Samrat Chaudhary took oath as the Chief Minister on 15 April 2026. Samrat Chaudhary becoming the Chief Minister was considered historic for BJP, because for the first time the party got the post of Chief Minister in Bihar.
