West Indies vs Sri Lanka: The second match of the 3-match T20 series between West Indies and Sri Lanka is being played in Kingston. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis has made a new record in this match. Mendis has made that record by defeating his own opening partner. Kusal Mendis has now made the Sri Lankan record of most runs in T20 International. West Indies won the toss and put Sri Lanka to bat first in the second T20.

Nissanka’s failure became an opportunity for Mendis

Captain Kusal Mendis and his opening partner Pathum Nissanka started the innings for Sri Lanka. Both the openers together took the first wicket and put 40 runs on the Sri Lankan score board. However, after this the couple broke up. Pathum Nissanka was out after facing 10 balls after scoring only 7 runs. His failure gave Kusal Mendis the opportunity to take the Sri Lankan record of most runs in T20 International.

Kusal Mendis made this record in T20I

Kusal Mendis scored 31 runs in 19 balls at a strike rate of 163.15, which included 2 fours and 2 sixes. Thanks to this inning of 31 runs, Mendis also left Pathum Nissanka behind. Till now the record of most runs in T20 International was in the name of Pathum Nissanka. But, after the second T20I against West Indies in Kingston, Kusal Mendis has taken a lead of 16 runs over Pathum Nissanka. With 2689 runs in 108 innings of 108 matches, Kusal Mendis is now Sri Lanka’s new top scorer in T20 International. Whereas Pathum Nissanka has slipped to second position with 2673 runs in 92 innings of 93 matches.

Mishara- Shanaka scored half-centuries for Sri Lanka

Talking about the second T20I, Kamil Mishara scored the most runs in Sri Lanka’s innings. He remained unbeaten after scoring 61 runs in 40 balls. Dashun Shanaka scored the second half-century for the team, who scored 58 runs in just 24 balls at a strike rate of 241.66. His innings included 4 sixes and 5 fours.
