Why two Muslim parties of Kashmir are fighting on the Waqf law?

There has been a ruckus in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for two days over the Waqf Amendment Act. The National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are not seen to be a mutual agreement and both parties are accusing each other. On Monday, NC MLAs tore copies of Waqf law in the House and created a ruckus. Some similar situations have been seen on Tuesday as well.

A new proposal was presented on Tuesday opposing the PDP in the Assembly, opposing the law, after which the uproar started. The leaders in the assembly demanded a discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act. PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti resorted to X to express his concern.

He said, ‘Waqf issue is beyond the matters of faith. This is a direct attack on the rights, beliefs and respects of 24 crore Muslims in India. Being the only Muslim dominated area, Jammu and Kashmir should come forward on this occasion and protect the rights of their people. He appealed to the Chief Minister, the Assembly and the Jammu and Kashmir government to show ‘political resolution’ and take this issue seriously.

PDP MLA was taken out of House

After an uproar on the Waqf Act, the assembly had to be postponed again on the second day and Waheed Para, a PDP member, was thrown out of the House through martials. In fact, opposition parties, including PDP and Awami Ittehad Party, had projected a stay motion to discuss the Waqf Act, which was rejected by the chairman under Rule 58. The ruckus was postponed again about this matter and the proceedings of the assembly were postponed.

On the previous day, the National Conference -led coalition government reiterated its plan to bring a proposal against the Waqf Amendment Act. Major leaders of the valley, including Sajjad Lone, the head of the People’s Conference, also presented their stand on this. Loan emphasized the need for open discussion on the Act and criticized CM Abdullah for meeting Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju soon after the bill was passed. Lone said that there was no need to meet him. This leads to a very wrong message.

What argument did Farooq Abdullah give

Regarding the Waqf law, Farooq Abdullah, the Chief of the National Conference and former CM of Jammu and Kashmir, says that his party is against this law. Many parties have knocked on the door of the Supreme Court regarding this, so Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speakers are not discussing this law. He hopes that the Supreme Court will do justice. Assembly speaker Abdul Rahim Rather also made the same argument, but PDP MLAs are alleging that the National Conference is found with the central government. The National Conference and the PDP have been determined about this matter.
