The first quarter of 2025 passed. Talking about the business of Hindi films in these three months, it does not look very encouraging. Salman Khan-Rashmika Mandana starrer film Alexander was released on Sunday, 30 March, whose box office collection is disappointing with Salman’s previous blockbuster films. According to the Caiknilk website, this film has not been able to cross even the figure of hundred crores in the last three days. Why after all? Has the attraction of Salman’s movies in the audience decreased or has the story of Alexander disappointed people? While Alexander was very expected. It expected Salman’s alltime blockbuster films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Sultan. It was understood that Alexander would again buzz the box office after the teeth. Now it has to be seen how successful Sunny Deol’s Jat will be in winning this battle.
It is important to look at some figures in this regard. First of all, we do some big films of 2025 till date. On January 17 this year, Kangana Ranaut’s much awaited film Emergency came. It was a biopic of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He was also in the first controversies. According to media reports, the emergency ticket made for about 60 crores could not be removed at the window. Flops badly. Statistics show Kangana’s supporters also did not see this film. Similarly, Akshay Kumar’s Skyforce could not fly, average. Junaid Khan, who was liked in Maharaj, proved to be the love disaster, then Shahid Kapoor’s Deva also flopped. In this way, in the last three months, the only wick of wiki Kaushal has done tremendous business at the box office.
Last year also count blockbuster
Earlier, talking about the year 2024, only a few counting films like Pushpa 2, Stree 2, Animal, Bhool Bhulaiya 3, Gadar 2 were blockbusters. All these have become hit franchisees. In such a situation, the question becomes important that why is the box office business of Bollywood films becoming less? Why are the audience not turning to the cinema hall? There is a churn between public and critics regarding these questions. The opinion of some well-known film critics and trade analysts of the country has also come out through ANI.
Eminent film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh says- It is not that earlier films were not flopped. But in the earlier era, the number of hit, superhit and blockbuster films was also very good. Whereas now its number is constantly falling. Today, about eight-ten films flop in a line. This is a matter of concern for the Hindi film industry. In the year 2025, only one film Chhawa blockbuster has been done so far. A large number of spectators liked it. But there is silence at the box office before and after the teeth.
Our cinema has gone away from indigenous entertainment
Taran Adarsh says that entertainment films are the same as not to give you a chance to penetrate the eyelids on the screen. The script is no longer thought about in Hindi. Content is not coming in films. That’s why cinema houses are going empty. Films are not standing on expectations. Now the film in which Salman Khan is a hero, Sajid Nadiadwala is a producer and AR Murgados director, then he is expected to have a blockbuster. Salman Khan has worked with a new director for the first time. But see the result.
Taran also says that the new custom of the industry is also a big hand behind the flop of films. In his opinion, most of the films in Hindi are flopping because we are making metro centric films. We are making films only keeping in mind the selected cities. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad are making films keeping them in mind. We are unable to take care of Hindi circuit. People want to watch domestic entertainment films. Why was the Chhava, Pushpa, woman, or earlier young, Pathan, Animal, Gadar so successful, because they had indigenous entertainment.
The script is not paying a lot of attention
At the same time, well-known film critic Meena Iyer says- A big reason for Hindi films flop is not to be given a lot of attention in the case of script. Today most people are thinking that we have a superstar, make anything about it. But this is not working so much. Actor, producer, director, financer, distributor are all suffering. We believe that filmmakers should now think ahead of it. Today, there are a total of 10-12 people around an actor, the same decides which film to do and which is not. Artists are unable to hear the story by themselves. Because of this, brain dead cinema is coming and the audience is rejecting them.
Komal Nahta, a well -known film critic on this issue, says – Going or before the seventies and eighties, all our legend actors, they used to hear the story themselves. Used to understand his character. Like today, twenty five people did not surround him. Today, film actors have their social media managers, bouncers, they are advisers, whereas they were not the first. Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor… all these legends used to sit in front and tell the story.
Filmmakers understand public thinking and sentiment
Komal Nahata gives an example of the story of Hall’s film Alexander. He says that the enmity between Alexander’s story and the hero-wileen looks very incredible. Salman Khan’s wife dies in the film. He has donated three of his organs. Now inside the film, the villain Satyaraj whose hostility is from King Sanjay Rajkot i.e. Salman Khan wants to eliminate all three who have been donated. After all, why is it beyond comprehension? Nahta questions how the audience will be able to like such a story now.
Therefore, we believe that filmmakers will also have to think about the understanding and sentiment of today’s public. The film critic tells in detail, but the common public speaks in the same line that it was not fun man. The question is important how the audience should be entertained. How can the audience be confronted by watching movies that what is shown in the story is fine. Until this happens, it will be difficult to increase the number of blockbuster films.
