What is the history of Hawa Mahal
In India, during the times of kings and princes and many other classes, the practice of veiling or ghoonghat by women was a tradition of staying mainly inside the house and they were not allowed to go out. Due to this, women could not enjoy the festivals (events) happening outside the market. If we talk about the history of the construction of Hawa Mahal, then King Sawai Pratap Singh decided to build such a palace for his queens while maintaining the purdah system; in the palace where all the queens could enjoy the festivals and events of the market without coming into anyone’s sight. For this, Maharaj Sawai Pratap Singh assigned the architect Lal Singh Usta to build a palace, which had many windows and open spaces; so that things could be seen easily from inside and outside and the things inside were not visible from outside. After which a huge and magnificent five-storey palace was built in the year 1799. Which had 365 windows and 953 Jharokhas (lattice windows); So that the air can come easily from all around the whole palace and the palace remains more sunny and cool even in summer; that is why it was named Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). Apart from this, a fountain was also installed in the premises of this palace to keep the air cool, which can still be seen today. After the construction of this palace, the queens could easily watch the market activities by staying inside, avoiding the eyes of others. That is, this palace was built due to the insistence of the queens to see the outside festivals and other sights. In which there were more windows and vents. Apart from this, King Sawai Pratap Singh also used this Hawa Mahal for his writing and rest. Let us tell you that Maharaj Sawai Pratap Singh had deep faith in Lord Krishna, that is why the main part of the Hawa Mahal visible from outside is built on the basis of the crown of Lord Krishna, that is, the Hawa Mahal looks like the crown of Krishna when seen from outside. A distance. Also keep in mind that there is no direct entry to this palace from the outside road. That is why to enter this palace one has to go from the back. It has two entrances; these are named Anandpoli gate and Chandrapoli gate. This means that the Hawa Mahal which we see from outside the road is the back part of this palace and its main and front part is from the back side.
