Had consumed poison in Saavan

According to the legend, Mahadev protected the world from the terrible poison Kalakoot that came out of the churning of the ocean, in the month of Sawan itself. This was the holy month, when for the sake of protecting the universe, Mahadev drank poison and by holding it in his throat he was called Neelkanth, but after drinking the poison, the heat in Mahadev’s body started increasing, then to calm down that heat, the Gods offered him water. Since then the tradition of Jalabhishek of Shiva started in Sawan. Since then, Lord Shiva loves monsoon and water very much.

It is the month of union of Mahadev and Mata Parvati.

After immolating herself in the yagya of King Daksh, Mother Sati took her second birth as Mother Parvati, daughter of the mountain king Himalaya. Mother Parvati had performed severe penance to attain Lord Shiva. According to the scriptures, in the month of Sawan itself, God heard the call of Mother and being pleased with her penance, Lord Shiva married Mother on Monday of Sawan. This month is also the month of meeting of Mahadev and Mother Parvati, that is why this month is very dear to Mahadev.

Mahadev had come to his in-laws house in Saavan

It is believed that Lord Shiva incarnated on earth in the month of Sawan and went to his in-laws’ house and was given a grand welcome there. Jalabhishek was also performed. It is said that every year Lord Shiva comes to his in-laws’ house in the month of Saavan, hence he loves the month of Saavan very much.
