Ramayana vs Adipurush: The trailer of Nitesh Tiwari’s most awaited film ‘Ramayana’ was released on July 30. Along with this, it is being compared with Om Raut’s film ‘Adipurush’ on social media. Both the films are based on the Indian epic Ramayana, but the way they are presented seems quite different from each other. From the presentation of the characters of Lord Ram and Ravana to the visual effects (VFX), music and atmosphere of the film, there is a huge difference in the thinking and style of both the films. Let us know in which respects ‘Ramayana’ is superior to ‘Adipurush’.
1- Character of Lord Ram
Prabhas’ character Raghav in ‘Adipurush’ is shown as a warrior. In the trailer, there is more emphasis on war, passionate dialogues and big fight scenes. His character is seen in an aggressive manner against evil and is seen leading the army. Whereas in ‘Ramayana’, Ranbir Kapoor appears as Lord Ram with a calm, sensitive and dignified personality. His dialogues in the trailer reflect sacrifice, duty and devotion to religion. An attempt has been made in the film to present him in line with the traditional image of ‘Maryada Purushottam’, where his personality is seen to be associated with strength as well as compassion and ideals.
2- Ravana’s look and personality
There was a lot of controversy regarding Saif Ali Khan’s Lankesh look in ‘Adipurush’. Due to his short hair, different style and modern fantasy look, many viewers considered him different from the traditional Ravana image. In contrast, in ‘Ramayana’ Yash’s Ravana is shown with traditional style, golden armor and impressive personality. His look in the trailer seems closer to the traditional image of the epic.
3- VFX and Set Design
At the time of release of ‘Adipurush’, the biggest criticism was regarding its visual effects. Many viewers believed that many of the film’s scenes resembled video games and were overly dependent on CGI. Whereas in the trailer of ‘Ramayana’, places like Ayodhya, Swayamvar, forest and battlefield appear more real and detailed. A balance of big sets and modern VFX is seen in the film. Characters like Jatayu and the war scenes also feel more depth and realism.
4- Music created a different identity
There is a clear difference in the music of both the films. In ‘Adipurush’, the announcement of “Jai Shri Ram” along with the music of Ajay-Atul made the trailer grand. On the other hand, the music of Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman in ‘Ramayana’ gives a different experience. The use of orchestra, strings and percussion in the trailer strengthens the emotional side of the story. The film is also presented in the trailer as “humanity’s greatest story”.
5- Different thinking in presentation of story
While ‘Adipurush’ tried to present the story of Ramayana as a big action-fantasy experience, the trailer of ‘Ramayana’ seems to present the spirit of the original tale in a more respectful manner with religious and cultural sentiments. Although the final evaluation of any film can be done only after its release, but based on the trailer, the difference in the presentation of both the films is clearly visible.
Star Cast and Release Date
Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Yash, Ravi Dubey, Vivek Oberoi, Saurabh Sachdeva and Rakul Preet Singh will be seen in important roles in ‘Ramayana’, which is being made with a budget of around ₹ 4000 crore. This film will be released in two parts. The first part will be released in theaters across the world on the occasion of Diwali on November 8, while the second part will be released in front of the audience in 2027.
