Govinda and Karisma Kapoor have always been one of Bollywood’s most successful on-screen pairs, delivering a string of blockbuster entertainers throughout the 1990s. Their chemistry and comic timing made films like Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu and Hero No. 1 superhits that still enjoy cult status. However, after dominating the box office for years, the duo stopped appearing together on screen, leaving fans wondering what led to the end of their successful collaboration. Responding to the question, she said, “Interest khatam ho gaya hoga. Pyaar mohabbat khatam ho gaya hoga.” Talking about Karisma, she added, “Heroines ke mood ka bhi kya bharosa hai. Aur bahut zyada ambitious hona bhi achha nahi hai. Karisma over-ambitious thi. She was very hardworking, lekin attitude bhi bahut zyada tha.”

Translated in English, Shagufta suggested that the duo may have simply lost interest in working together or no longer shared a loving relationship. She also remarked that Karisma was extremely ambitious and hardworking but believed she also carried a lot of attitude.

The veteran actor further elaborated on what she meant by ‘attitude,’ explaining that professional behaviour on a film set plays an important role in creating a healthy working environment. “The attitude you bring to the set and the way you behave make a difference too. If someone is your co-actor, there has to be give and take.”

She added, “Whether you’re doing a scene together or giving an interview, both people should get an equal chance to speak. It affects our performance as well.” She said that if she is there on set to give cues, Karisma should also be there for her. The actress added, “I can perform scenes without cues too. That’s how I’ve managed to survive in this industry for 40 years.”
