Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar Death: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar died on Monday at the state police headquarters in Agartala. According to officials, his body was found in his office, following which there was a stir in the entire police administration and the state government. At present the reason for his death is not clear. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation. No cause has been officially confirmed at this initial stage. Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chief Secretary JK Sinha and several senior officials reached the hospital. The administration has said that the investigation of the case is ongoing and detailed information will be revealed only after the investigation is completed.
Who was Anurag Dhankhar?
Anurag Dhankhar was a 1994 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and belonged to Tripura cadre. In May 2025, he was appointed Director General of Police of Tripura. Before this he was holding the responsibility of DGP (Intelligence) in the state. In his nearly three decade long police career, he worked on many important posts. He started his career in Tripura in 1995 and served in important positions like SDPO Longthrai Valley, Superintendent of Police West and South Tripura, SP Special Branch and AIGP (Headquarters).
Anurag Dhankhar’s excellent education qualification
Anurag Dhankhar did post graduation in Food Technology from Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore. Apart from this, he obtained master’s degree in Police Management from Osmania University. For better understanding of cyber crimes, he also did Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Crimes from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Not only this, he was also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) of America, that is, he had special expertise in investigating financial fraud and fraud cases.
Performed important responsibilities in the country and abroad
Anurag Dhankhar also had experience of working at the international level. During the year 2003-04 he also served in the United Nations (UN) Mission in Kosovo. During his central deputation, he held many important responsibilities in CBI, CISF and Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). He had also led the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Home Ministry to investigate the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
