Sarthak presented his research on rigging

  • Let us tell you that Class 12 student Sarthak Siddhant is one of the students affected by the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He presented his research before the committee on the implementation of this system and the alleged rigging in the tender process.
  • Sarthak made a presentation before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports.
  • This committee is reviewing the use of OSM system in CBSE 12th examinations and the questions raised by the students regarding evaluation and transparency.
  • Before the meeting, Sarthak alleged that a lot of irregularities were revealed after comparing several tender documents of CBSE. According to him, it seems that these changes were made to benefit a particular service provider.
  • 17 year old Sarthak Siddhant is originally from Ranchi. Sarthak, who is a tech researcher and himself a victim, had given the exam.

Sarthak Siddhant told how to bring out this dark truth?

  • Speaking to the media, Sarthak said, “There were many irregularities in it. I have just compared them. According to my blog, there were at least 15 irregularities. I would like to highlight three-four of them.”
  • Sarthak drew attention to the changes in the tender conditions of OSM system. He claimed that clauses related to poor performance, blacklisting, financial qualification limit, CMMI level and project eligibility criteria were changed in the tender one after the other.
  • He alleged, “The first irregularity is that in the old tender there were three clauses regarding poor performance, that if the service provider’s performance was poor then he would be disqualified. But in the new RFP, this was completely removed.”
  • The student told that he has done this research in collaboration with ethical hacker Nisarg Adhikari and journalists investigating this matter. He expressed hope that this case will bring more transparency in the system of government procurement and evaluation in education.

It should be tested on a large scale

  • Sarthak also clarified that he is not against the OSM system, but he believes that it should have been tested on a larger scale before implementing it.
  • He said, “I think OSM is a good change, but first it should have been rolled out on a larger scale and good demo pilots should have been done.”
  • This parliamentary panel is also reviewing the implementation of three-language formula in classes 9 and 10.
