More than 3 years have passed since Rs 2,000 notes were banned in the country, but people still have a large amount of these notes lying around. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its latest update that even after being taken out of circulation, notes worth Rs 5,451 crore are still left with the public till April 30, 2026.

98.47% notes have gone back into the banking system. But, around 1.5% notes are still in the market. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given this information by sharing a post from its official X account.

On 19 May 2023, RBI had announced to remove Rs 2000 notes from circulation. At that time, total Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore were available in the market. According to the data of April 30, 2026, now only notes worth Rs 5,451 crore are left in the market.

2000 note is still valid

If you still have Rs 2000 note, there is no need to worry. Regarding ₹ 2000 notes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said in its latest status that this pink note of ₹ 2000 remains a completely ‘legal tender’ even today.

You can still deposit Rs 2000 notes

The facility to deposit or exchange these notes was available in all bank branches till October 7, 2023. However, this facility is still available in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. Apart from this, common people can send Rs 2,000 notes through post from any post office of the country to any issue office of RBI for depositing it in their bank accounts.
