Rohit Sharma: A big news has come out during the ODI series being played between India and England. Clouds of crisis seem to be looming over the ODI career of Indian team’s veteran batsman Rohit Sharma. According to media reports, the Senior Selection Committee of BCCI has made up its mind to drop Rohit Sharma from the Indian ODI squad. The selectors do not want to select Rohit in the team further after this ODI series. It is reported that Rohit has already been informed about this tough decision and keeping in mind the future preparations, the plan for his replacement has also been completely prepared.
Whom will BCCI give a chance in place of Rohit?
According to media reports, the selectors have decided to bet on 24-year-old young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal to include him in the team in place of Rohit Sharma. Keeping in mind the ODI World Cup to be held in the year 2027, the selection committee wants to prepare Jaiswal as an opener from now on. This is the reason that as soon as the England series ends, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be given regular opportunities in the ODI team, so that he can prepare himself for this big tournament.
It is also worth noting that after the Champions Trophy in the year 2025, Rohit was also removed from the captaincy of ODI, which surprised everyone. Since then it became clear that it would not be easy for Rohit to remain in the team till the 2027 World Cup. Now it will be interesting to see whether the third ODI match to be held at Lord’s proves to be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s ODI career or not.
Jaiswal has 2 centuries in 6 matches
Yashasvi Jaiswal started his ODI career in the year 2025 with the series against England. Till now, he has played a total of 6 ODI matches for India, in which he has scored 285 runs at an excellent average of 71.25. In this short ODI career, Jaiswal has scored 2 brilliant centuries. He played his last ODI match against Afghanistan, in which he also played a brilliant century of 110 not out.
Let us tell you, before the next ODI World Cup, the Indian team has to play about 20 ODI international matches. All efforts are underway to try Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener in all these matches. India’s next ODI series is to be against West Indies, and it is believed that Yashasvi Jaiswal can be included in the team in place of Rohit Sharma in this series. After this, the Indian team has to tour New Zealand, while at home it also has to play ODI series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
