Rules of Jagannath Rath Yatra: Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is one of the major religious events of Odisha. Every year, the holy Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. During this time, the chariot of his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra ji also accompanies the Lord. This year, this holy festival of Jagannath ji’s Rath Yatra is going to be celebrated on 16th July. Jagannath ji’s place is considered a part of the four holy places. Every year lakhs of devotees reach the temple of Jagannath in Puri during the Rath Yatra.

During this, devotees have darshan of their God and pull the ropes of the three chariots involved in the Rath Yatra. There is a religious belief that by pulling the ropes of the chariots, the sins of many births are destroyed and the path to salvation opens. During Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra travel from Sri Mandir to Gundicha Temple sitting on grand chariots, but a question comes in the minds of people whether any person can pull the chariot of Lord Jagannath or there are any special rules for it.

Everyone can pull the chariot of Jagannathji.

If you are planning to participate in Puri’s Rath Yatra for the first time, then definitely know the traditions and rules of Jagannath ji’s temple and Rath Yatra. During the Rath Yatra, common devotees are also given the opportunity to pull the rope of the chariot. This right has not been limited to any one caste, community, language or state. Devotees coming from India and abroad can become a part of the Rath Yatra by following the traditions and rules. Considering the crowd situation, the administration has the right to control the movement of people around the chariot.

Women or elderly people can also pull the chariot. However, keeping in view the crowd and security situation, the administration reserves the right to control the entry or proximity at any particular time. In such a situation, it is important to give priority to health and safety.

It is necessary to follow these rules before pulling the chariot

Before joining the Rath Yatra and pulling the chariot, one should follow the instructions of the police and administration. One should not enter barricaded or restricted areas. There should be no pushing or shoving. Special care should be taken of children and the elderly. Balance should be taken care of while pulling the rope.
