Which caste people pay how much tax? Will there be a report on this also?

After the announcement of caste census, a new debate has started regarding the data of taxpayers. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has demanded that the government should also tell how much tax people of which caste pay, so that policies can be made on the basis of economic contribution. After the announcement of the census process and caste census which is going to start in the country after 14 years, a new demand has now come to the fore. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI), the leading business organization of Delhi and the country, has appealed to the government to make the detailed data of taxpayers along with caste data public. However, this is just a demand. No official decision has been taken on this.

CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that when the government is conducting a caste-based survey, it should also be clear as to how much tax the people of which caste pay. He argues that this will help in understanding what role which classes play in running the country’s economy.

According to Goyal, the government already has complete data related to Income Tax and GST, but it was never made public on the basis of caste. CTI believes that if this information is revealed, policy making can be more balanced and transparent.

What has been the demand?

CTI Senior Vice President Deepak Garg and Vice President Rahul Adlakha say that till date it is not clear which caste gives how much revenue to the government. In such a situation, special policies, insurance, pension and medical facilities should be ensured for the class which pays the highest tax.

At the same time, CTI General Secretaries Gurmeet Arora and Ramesh Ahuja said that there are about 6 crore traders in the country, while 20 lakh traders are active in Delhi alone. These taxpayers should also get their due rights under social equality. There is a strong discussion in the traders community regarding this demand of CTI and a large number of traders have also supported it.
