On this day, married women keep a fast for the long life of their husbands and a happy married life, while unmarried girls worship Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva to get the desired groom. Since nature covers all surroundings with a green blanket during the month of Saavan, it is called Hariyali Teej.
This festival is mainly celebrated to commemorate the reunion of Mahadev and Mata Parvati. According to Drik Panchang, Tritiya Tithi of Sawan Shukla Paksha will start on 14 August 2026 at 6:46 PM and will end on 15 August 2026 at 5:28 PM. Due to the tradition of celebrating the festival according to Udaya Tithi, the fast and worship of Hariyali Teej will be done on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

What is the importance of Hariyali Teej?
Hariyali Teej is considered a symbol of the divine union of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. There is a religious belief that Mother Parvati had performed severe penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Pleased with her penance, Lord Shiva accepted her as his better half. Since then, the festival of Hariyali Teej is considered a symbol of love, dedication and unbreakable marital relationship. After worshiping as per rituals, listen or read the fast story of Hariyali Teej and finally perform the aarti of Shiva-Parvati. During the puja, it is considered auspicious to wish for the happiness and prosperity of the family, long life of the husband and happiness of married life.
