Tabu’s real name is Tabassum Fatima. She used ‘Fatima’ as a surname during her school days. Her childhood was spent in Hyderabad, where she lived with her maternal grandparents. Her mother was a teacher and the influence of strong women in the family is clearly visible in her upbringing.
The name ‘Tabu’ was given to Tabassum by Dev Anand. After seeing Tabu at a birthday party, Dev Anand cast her in his film ‘Hum Naujawan’, where she was seen in the role of his daughter. In this film, she was given credit with the name ‘Tabu’ and from here her new name became famous.
