Actor Annu Kapoor, known for his powerful work in evergreen films like ‘Mandi’, ‘Utsav’ and ‘Mr. India’, is often in the headlines for his statements. Annu was in the news recently for his statements regarding Priyanka Chopra and sometimes Ramayam. Now once again Annu Kapoor has given a statement which has given rise to a new debate on social media.
Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Chak De India’, released in 2007, is considered a cult classic film of Hindi cinema. Be it Shahrukh’s acting in the film or the work of the supporting cast, everything is highly praised. It has been 17 years since the film came out but still its dialogues, songs and scenes are still remembered. Now Annu Kapoor has made a sharp comment on this film.
What did Annu Kapoor say?
Pointing towards the film, Annu Kapoor said that Shahrukh Khan’s character Kabir Khan was based on coach Mir Ranjan Negi. He also claimed that the filmmakers deliberately changed Shahrukh’s character into a Muslim. He said, ‘The main character in Chak De India is based on a famous coach, Negi Saab but in India, they want to show a Muslim in a good role and make fun of a Pandit.’
Debate broke out on social media
Not only this, Annu Kapoor further said, ‘This is some old thing, where they use the idea of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb i.e. Hindu-Muslim unity to put a label on it.’ Now this comment of Annu Kapoor has started a new debate on social media. While many users supported Annu, many people also slammed Annu Kapoor for making such comments on the film.
