West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 Phase 2 Voting LIVE Updates: West Bengal is now heading into the second and most important phase of the 2026 Assembly elections. Polling will take place tomorrow in 142 constituencies, which will largely decide the future of the state.
More than 3.22 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes, with over 1,400 candidates in the fray. This phase covers many areas in South Bengal and Kolkata, which have been traditional strongholds of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is facing a tough challenge from the BJP. In a high-profile contest, BJP has fielded Suvendu Adhikari against her in Bhabanipur.
The first phase of elections saw a record 93.2 per cent voter turnout. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and deletion of many names have become major issues in the campaign. The Matua community’s votes in North 24 Parganas and Nadia are also very important. Tight security has been arranged, with large numbers of police and central forces deployed. Results will be declared on May 4.
