He wrote, “Details of incident and complaint: Cargo truck number JH09BA3535 (Owner: Deepak Singh, Driver: Shiva Yadav), while returning to the garage after servicing, was wrongly stopped by the officials at Rampur checkpost in West Bardhaman. The driver was illegally harassed and pressurized for bribe and on refusal, the vehicle was seized, and illegal demand of ₹22,000 towards toll already cleared by the state government. Was done.”
Government took immediate action
Detailing the prompt departmental measures initiated to protect commercial drivers from harassment, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said, “Action – Acting swiftly on complaints of extortion and abuse of power, the Transport Department has taken immediate and decisive action.”
Reiterating the state government’s zero-tolerance mandate with regard to administrative misconduct, the West Bengal CM said, “The erring Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) posted at Rampur checkpost – Mr. Nazimul Haque and Mr. Anupam Banerjee have been suspended with immediate effect under Rule 7(1)(a) of the West Bengal Service (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971.
